If you finish one, and you still have class time, please move onto the next. 1. How did Maus as a book work for you? In your opinion was the graphic format a plus, a minus, or both? How? 2. Pick a panel or series of panels from Maus that convey an idea or concept in a way that would only work in a comic. Explain it and how it works. 3. Pick a book, story, idea that you think would work well as a comic. Explain why and how it could be done.

Wednesday: For classs today please read Chapter One and Appendix B in From A To Zine, which is on reserve in the Undergraduate Library. Make a copy, bring it to class, and be prepared to speak.

We will view this link on how to make a zine, as well as this one. Also, you might want to browse this site for examples of zines.

Thursday: Please have read the Introduction and chapters 1, 2 and 3 of Into the Wild for class today.

If you choose  Tripp Lake please write about a childhood memory that is sparked by this essay. For “Where God is Glad” write about a place in the same detailed and analytical way Wenderroth write of Tony’s.

Monday: Have read “The Lesbian Bride’s Handbook” and ‘Extreme Dinosaurs” In The Best American Essays.

Wednesday (Computer Lab): Read this story on tattoos. Write your blog on what you would get a tattoo of, where you would get it, and why. Please be sure to make clear if this tattoo would be a group or private identification. You can insert a graphic if you like. Please, no blogs on how you would never get a tattoo. This is just a writing assignment on group and individual identity; you don’t have to take it that serious.
