No class today (Wednesday 1/28)! I can’t make it to campus through this awful snow (I live in Indianapolis where the snow fall is almost triple that of Purdue) and I hate the idea of you guys slipping and sliding about. Enjoy your day off and I will see you at the library tomorrow.
Monday: Have read this essay on dumpster diving, and explore this and this webpage about dupster diving. Please write a two page response about how you would and would not fit into this subculture. What parts appeal to you and which don’t?

Thursday: Have read “Cricket Fighting” In Best American Essays. In this essay cricket fighting is used as a metaphor for something lost, forgotten, or devalued in society. Please write and bring with you to class a 2-page (typed, double spaced) essay on something you think is lost or we are losing in society. Please don’t feel you have to be serious or grave in your essay; you can write about the loss of chunky peanut butter as easily as the loss of innocence. Whatever you want to write about is fine.
